Canoe Building

Participants in the WFD canoe building projects at Arundel / Coorparoo / Cleveland / Logan / Macleay Island / Manly and Ransome gained valuable employability skills in building several strip plank Canadian style canoes.

The canoes are approximately 4.5 metres long and can safely accommodate two paddlers. Built from cedar strips and covered with a clear layer of fibreglass they are strong and light.
Experience in using hand and power tools and using epoxy to fix the planks to the frame are valuable skills that can be used in a range of employment positions.
The finished canoes were proudly donated to a number of local community organisations including the Bay Islands Community Services Inc and Mud Flat Toys.
