Youth Skills on the Gold Coast

Replica of a 1934 Aston Martin Ulster

This automotive project is for youth aged 15-19 years who will have the opportunity to complete the VET Foundation Skills and Automotive Certificates.

They will gain a range of skills while participating in the construction of  scale replica of a 1934 Aston Martin Ulster sports car.

Then completed car will have steel ladder frame chassis, leaf springs, motorcycle chrome wire wheels, brakes, lights and high-gloss black bodywork.

The front mounted engine will be a powerful 250cc four-stroke unit, with drive to the rear wheels.

We will engage students in every aspect of vehicle build with some parts fabricated prior to the course commencement.

Up to 30 young people will be given the opportunity to work on the Replica project over its 34 week construction period.

The fine detail in the Replica will demonstrate the skills that students need to succeed in their certificate course but more importantly, these all-round skills are the key to being an ‘interesting applicant’ when attending a job interview for an automotive traineeship.

When the Aston Martin Ulster replica is completed, a “Skills Expo” will be held in a suitable location.  Those who attend will be introduced to many of the students who worked on the Aston Martin, all of whom will be dressed in their black ‘Aston Martin Ulster’ polo shirts.

We will ensure that the Skills Expo is well promoted and highly regarded to show to employers that our young students have the skills and knowledge to be of value to them in their business.
